The Meghalaya Police, in association with the grassroots NGO CyberPeace Foundation (CPF), launched a CyberPeace Awareness Month campaign today.
The campaign is designed to promote cyber safety awareness via online activities on the Meghalaya police social media handles such as webinars, cyber talks, volunteer workshops, surveys, jingle competition and other activities.
The survey will focus primarily on identifying threats that people are exposed to online and their understanding of internet usage and technology, thus assessing the awareness of the general population of Meghalaya on online safety and security.
Talking about the campaign, CyberPeace Director Purnendu Singh said, “CyberPeace Foundation has already done such awareness campaigns with Telangana police, Andhra Pradesh police, Assam police, Mizoram police and now we are honoured to partner with Meghalaya police to launch this month-long campaign to emphasize upon the importance of cyber safety and vigilance in our day to day lives. With such awareness campaigns we will be able to build more cyber aware citizens in Meghalaya and across the nation.”
Launching the campaign, Additional Director General of Police Idashisha Nongrang said, “We have to keep in mind that some basic components of cybersecurity rest on us, as individuals, and I am very happy that Meghalaya police are on this mission to create an awareness of cybersecurity issues… I hope this campaign will help us achieve the desired goal of educating the future and present generations as to why we need to be aware of the plethora of challenges confronting us, and through this awareness campaign, formulate a response to each of these challenges.”
The launch was followed by the first webinar in the series on the topic ‘Cyber crime against women and children and redressal’, which was attended by teachers and students from various schools and colleges and the police officials in Meghalaya.
