Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today had a hectic day in New Delhi as he met a number of union ministers to discuss various projects in the State.
Though Sangma has not made any indication of meeting Home Minister Amit Shah to discuss on the Inner Line Permit (ILP) issue, he has however made use of his visit to Delhi by meeting central ministers including Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.
Sangma who was accompanied by Meghalaya Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh during his meeting with Birla, apprised him on the progress of the construction of the new Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building.
Sangma also invited Birla to visit Meghalaya to give an audience to all members of the State Assembly.
Moreover, Sangma accompanied by cabinet ministers James Sangma and Sniawbhalang Dhar met Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
During the meeting, Sangma sought the Central government’s support for financial aid to the Williamnagar water supply project.
The chief minister also sought the intervention of Puri to expedite the expansion of Umroi and Baljek airports.
In another meeting, Sangma accompanied by cabinet minister Brolding Nongsiej met Union Minister of Jal Shakti, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and apprised him on the progress of Jal Jeevan Mission projects in Meghalaya.
Sangma also sought the support of Jal Shakti Ministry for rejuvenation of Umkhrah and Umshyrpi rivers and release of grants under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) for micro irrigation projects in Meghalaya.
The chief minister also called on Union Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Prakash Javdekar to discuss issues related to eco-sensitive zones around Nokrek, Balpakram and Siju in Garo Hills including forest related matters in the State.
Further, Sangma accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong met Union Minister of State for Sports, Kiren Rijiju and discussed on proposed projects for Khelo India in Meghalaya and the prospects of hosting the North East Youth Festival in Shillong to commemorate Meghalaya’s 50th year of statehood.
