The foundation stone for the upgrades to the Pasyih-Garampani Road was laid by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma today in the presence of several other ministers and MLAs.
Connecting Meghalaya to Assam, the 47 kilometre Pasyih-Garampani Road is a state highway that begins at 8th Mile of the Jowai-Ratacherra Road (NH-6) and ends at Saphai, near the Assam border. The road passes through several villages, like Pyntei, Biar, Chatwakhu, Nongkroh, Lakadong, Theym and Saphai.
The road work will be done on the section from the 21km mark to Saphai at a cost of Rs 62.49 crore. The project has been sanctioned under the Meghalaya Integrated Transport Project (MITP), which is funded by the World Bank.
Besides the CM, other dignitaries included Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, Transport Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar and MLAs Comingone Ymbon and Nujorki Sungoh.
