Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to visit Shillong on January 23 for the plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council (NEC), it was informed by Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today.
“I had a discussion the day before yesterday with the Union Home Minister on some other issues. We have discussed and I will be talking to him again on the phone. He is supposed to come here on January 23 for the NEC plenary meeting,” Sangma told reporters.
The CM also informed that he would take up the demand for the implementation of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) with Shah.
“In case he comes here we will meet in Shillong [but if] there is a change in his programme then I will be making a tour to Delhi most likely before the 23rd of this month,” he said.
On the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act amendment bill, he said, “There have been some comments and observations made by the Governor, Satya Pal Malik, and sent to us. After that the Governor had called me and we had discussed it. He had told me that he will work closely with the state government and with the central government to find a way forward to get this bill passed and after that he had a meeting with the Union Home Minister in Delhi and [Shah] consequently had mentioned that he would like to discuss the matter with me and then take a final call,” the CM said.
Meanwhile, the Meghalaya unit of the BJP met the party’s national president JP Nadda today evening.
According to Meghalaya BJP President Ernest Mawrie, during the meeting the state unit discussed the issue of corruption in the autonomous district councils of Jaiñtia Hills and Garo Hills (JHADC and GHADC).
“We also discussed the issue of implementation of ILP in Meghalaya,” Mawrie said.
The state unit also submitted documents relating to the illegalities in the JHADC and GHADC and illegal coal mining.
