The State till August has recorded 349 cases of crime against women, in 2020.
As per statistics available from the Meghalaya police, 44 were cases of rape, 16 were attempt to commit rape, 19 were cases of kidnapping and abduction of women, one was a case of dowry death and three are cases of cruelty by husband or his relatives.
Meanwhile, the state also recorded 247 cases of crime against children during the same period.
Under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act 2012 / IPC Sections 376, 354 & 509, a total of 197 cases were recorded.
Under Sec.4 and 6 of POCSO Act / Sec.376 of IPC a total of 132 cases were recorded, under Sec. 8 & 10 of POCSO Act / Sec.354 of IPC, a total of 34 cases were recorded.
Under Sec.12 of POCSO Act / Sec.509 of IPC, four cases were registered. The police also registered 35 cases for kidnapping and abduction.
Meanwhile, the State also recorded one case of infanticide and one case of murder, till August 2020.
