The state Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) farmers’ wing has stood by the central government contentious reforms to the agriculture sector in the country and denounced opposition parties for coming out against the changes.
The BJP’s Kisan Morcha Meghalaya held a meeting with farmers in the plains belt of Garo Hills in Chibinang in support of the three farmers’ bills, which will open up agriculture to further participation by private companies.
The meeting resolved to urge the Centre not to withdraw the reforms, the BJP said in a press release today.
Kisan Morcha Meghalaya President Promodh Koch said that opposition parties were misleading farmers and other people over the issue and were conspiring to create unrest by misleading people. He strongly criticized parties who, the BJP said, are trying to instigate innocent farmers just to meet their political goals.
