In another conflict on the disputed border, Assam Police yesterday entered Madan Umwang village in Ri-Bhoi and forcibly ordered a halt to the ongoing construction of an Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) building, a project of the Meghalaya government.
Local headman, Spilling Sohtun, said that, without meeting the village leaders first, police from the neighbouring state entered the village and ordered a halt to construction of the Rs 7 lakh project.
The police reportedly threatened to dismantle the JCB involved in the work if their order was not adhered to.
Sohtun added that he then informed the district Superintendent of Police and Block Development Officer of Umsning on the matter and urged them to take action against the Assam Police for their unwelcome interference.
