The Garo Students Union’s Mindikgre Regional Unit in South Garo Hills has written to the District School Education Officer (DSEO) over its objections to the return of only 50 percent of the fees charged for the holding secondary and higher secondary selection exams.
The NGO urged the authorities to return at least 90 percent of the selection exam fees.
Earlier, the DSEO, through a November meeting with officers, had decided to refund half of the money as selection exams had been cancelled as per the state government’s order. The reason not to refund the full amount was explained as expenses already incurred, such as printing and stationery.
“Students have already paid for sitting for the SSLC and HSSLC examinations and to return only 50 percent of the amount is condemnable. They are innocent and the authorities should have at least waited for a government notification before filling up the forms for the exams,” said unit President, Greneth Sangma.
