Congress legislator Ampareen Lyngdoh admitted that the AICC is in a lot of confusion with regards to leadership and that some issues are currently “rocking” the party.
“I have only this to say, we are disciplined party workers, who will accept and yes there are some issues that is rocking our party at the moment,” Lyngdoh told reporters.
She also said that the party is not denying there is an issue with the party’s leadership. “Going on a denial mode will probably not be the adequate response from a responsible legislator. We are hoping that this will be sorted out,” the Congress legislator added.
She also reiterated that it would be wrong and not in the fitness of things to say that this (leadership issue) is all gossip even as she added the party members are looking up to the AICC now it is taking several steps, to begin the process of the selection of its leader.
On reports of several Congress MLAs planning to jump ship ahead of the Assembly elections in 2023, Lyngdoh said that there is a lot of speculation floated in the public domain.
“This entire debate is actually emerging out of one fact, and that is at the moment, our party is in all time low, in the eyes of the public, so there is a lot of panic, but I am confident, that whether these speculations are rumours or truth we will find out 2023,” the East Shillong legislator said.
She also pointed out that when legislators are elected there comes along with it big expectations and aspiration.
“So now when legislators are not in position to address all of these expectations, of the people we will panic we are human as well. So don’t look at an MLA as somebody who will be away from issues,” Lyngdoh said.
According to her, elected representatives will want to be in a place where they are part of a government, because when one is in the government they will have more access to redress issues, of the public.
However, the East Shillong MLA said that they are with the Congress party because of their confidence in the leadership, in the constitution which talks about the promotion of secularism, ensuring that states are given their due respect and which is not polarising in its approach.
She pointed out that the Congress has 19 MLAs in the Assembly and each of them will have their own opinions, but at the end of the day good sense will prevail, because they are guided by a constitution which is pro people, which promises to the people that it will lift up the current situations in the State and bring employment, and will fight recession.
On rumours that the current Congress MLAs are planning to float a new party ahead of the 2023 Assembly elections, Lyngdoh said that it is a big responsibility and right now she is happy in the Congress.
“As of today, I don’t see any urgency to go anywhere. I don’t see any need to go anywhere, I feel that I have confidence that my party will sort out the internal matters and we will come out, with a solution and like I said we have time we will discuss this but floating another political party again is another issue altogether,” she added.
