Social Welfare Minister Kyrmen Shylla has assured action to release various grants for persons with disabilities.
“I have given direction to the officer’s concern for all the details and to find out the reason for all the delays,” Shylla told Highland Post. He maintained that all those entitled to the grants should not be deprived of their rights and the government is doing its best to release the grants at the earliest.
“We will try our level best to speed up the released of the various grants that include the Scholarship, Book grant, Uniform grant, Conveyance allowance, Unemployment Allowance, etc for the persons with disabilities,” he assured.
The Khasi Disability Association (KDA) had on November 17 petitioned the Chief Minister of Meghalaya Conrad K Sangma on the delay to release the various grants that include the Scholarship, Book grant, Uniform grant, Conveyance allowance, Unemployment Allowance, etc for the persons with disabilities.
President of the Khasi Disability Association (KDA) Starwin Kharjana had said that the association has still not received any response on the grants that are usually released in April that has forced them to approach the Chief Minister this time.
Informing that many letters have been sent to the concerned authorities since March 20 including letters of reminder Kharjana said, “They initially said that the sanction for the grants had been received and on receipt of the LOA, it will be released to the district offices. Then they said that the department is still waiting for the LOA from the finance department for the release of the same that have put the lives of the person with disabilities that are dependent on these financial assistances in great misery.”
Stating that the delay can no longer be tolerated, he said, “We urged the government to release all the grants for the person with disabilities at the earliest.”
