A poor family in Bataw village under East Jaiñtia Hills district gets a new home today thanks to the Federation of Khasi Jaiñtia and Garo People (GKJGP) who has constructed it using their resources and donations generated.
Airis Masa, a single mother with a physically disabled son did not have a roof over their heads, but was given space by one Mon Suchiang to say at his house.
However, her sad story was taken up by a mission worker to the FKJGP Bataw unit who decided to do their bid in ensuring a home for the family.
FKJGP unit president Deihok Sumer said that members of the organisation has been able to get all the construction materials together and with donations from Social Welfare Minister, Kyrmen Shylla and JHADC chairman Dr Sankey Shangpung they were able to construct the house at Rs 2.70 lakh.
The house was today inaugurated by Shylla in the presence of Shangpung, FKJGP central body general secretary Dundee C Khongsit, chief organising secretary Kitboklang Nongphlang, Agriculture Secretary B. Mawthoh, waheh shnong of Bataw, Bhalang Suchiang and others.
