Health and Family Welfare Minister AL Hek today warned that the public should follow health protocols to avoid a Covid-19 “massacre”.
With the onset of winter there is an increased chance of a second wave of the disease hitting the state and, when asked about this, Hek said, “Anything can happen. The only thing we are praying to God for is that there is no massacre in our state. We have to be very careful and follow the protocols of the Health Department.”
He followed the dire warning with a reassurance that the government is prepared for a second wave, if there is one.
Hek, who had earlier contracted Covid-19 himself, said he had sought for financial help to fight the virus from the central government on a recent trip to New Delhi and had receive positive indications that additional funding will make its way to Meghalaya to combat Covid-19.
On the decision of the state government to charge certain categories of people for their Covid-19 tests when earlier they were free for all, the minister said that limited financial resources could not stretch on forever.
