Members of the Khasi Students Union (KSU), North Eastern Hills University (NEHU) Unit along with the Education Cell of the KSU, Central Body, carried out a silent protest against the decision of the North Eastern Hill University to give admission to students on the basis of Merit.
On Friday members of the students’ body carried placards and marched to the office of the Vice-Chancellor.
According to Richest Malngiang, general secretary of the KSU NEHU unit , it was seen in the past that many local students of Meghalaya are deprived of admission into the university since NEHU was strict in giving marks to its students as compared to other universities who are lenient in marking their own students.
The General Secretary of the KSU, NEHU Unit said that the union is against the decision of the University and it will put pressure on the authorities to conduct entrance tests.
The student’s body also demanded that the results of the under graduate courses be declared at the earliest and also expressed their concern over the delay by NEHU in declaring the dates for the backlog papers.
