BJP legislator Sanbor Shullai chose to be the referee amidst the bickering between the NPP and said his party should not have projected the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government in poor light.
In a letter to BJP state president, Ernest Mawrie, the South Shillong legislator said being a partner and attacking its own government questions “our very intent and existence in the government.”
Shullai said that he had discussed the matter with most of the senior party leaders and members who were of the opinion that such matters should be discussed at appropriate forums.
He informed that during the core committee meet on October 2 it was decided that henceforth all press statements against the government should be made only after taking into confidence of both the elected MLAs and through appropriate and accepted forum.
“However in spite of the decision being taken repetitive press statement is being giving time and again by the state office bearers which is in violation of the resolution adopted during the core committee meet,” Shullai said.
The BJP MLA also questioned whether the central leaders are aware of the multiple allegations made by state BJP office bearers and if they do so, then it is imperative that the central leaders should also take the local MLAs into confidence as they are the elected representatives.
He also appealed to all party leaders to bring forward all issues related to the government to the designated platform and to refrain from going public about the issues before it is heard and given a chance for clarification.
Shullai has also requested Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to call for a meeting of the MDA coalition to address and resolve all issues to restore trust and amongst the partners.
The BJP legislator said that the issue of severing ties is not of major concern but the decision to form the alliance lie with central leaders and so the decision to withdraw should also lie with the central leaders.
