A two-week long training programme on Covid-19 and behavioural change for street vendors and hawkers began here at the U So So Tham autditorium on Monday.
The training programme is being organised by the Meghalaya & Greater Shillong Progressive Hawkers & Street Vendors Association in collaboration with NHM, Government of Meghalaya.
Six hundred hawkers will be trained in batches of 30 in two sessions per day from October 12 to 16 and October 19 to 23. With 60 hawkers and vendors trained today, the organisation hoped that by the end of the week 300 will be trained and another 300 next week.
The organisation says that at least around 3000 people would be reached when they go home and teach their families and another five each in the market through pamphlet distribution that will have a positive impact.
The training programme is being held with an aim to sensitise and educate hawkers and street vendors on how to protect oneself and others from Covid-19.
Information booklets and pamphlets were also released by the organisation which will be distributed to participants as well as to the general public.
