Director of Health Services Dr Aman War today rubbished conspiracy theories that have been aired regarding the rising number of Covid-19 infections in the state.
War countered claims, online and offline, that the state government is artificially inflating the number of positive Covid cases in order to secure more funds from the central government. There have also been spurious claims that health workers are making money from declaring more positive cases.
“It’s totally wrong and utter nonsense,” Dr War said of the claims. “This is being said to hoodwink the citizens of the state and this is being denied totally by me as there is no such thing that the more positive cases we have the more funds we will get.”
He slammed the very idea as an insult to the health workers “who are working day and night to fight Covid-19.”
“People should not listen to false allegations. This is just to tarnish the image of the department and the government,” he added.
Any more baseless and malicious conspiracy theories will attract provisions of the Epidemic Diseases Act, the DHS said, adding, “From now on we will react to all these allegations and will not take it lying down.”
