The villagers of Shymplong, near Sonapyrdi are now busy clearing the obstructions that were created due to a landslide on the only road to their village in recent days.
Shymplong is located 48 kms away from the district headquarter of Khliehriat. The road also links other villages close to the Indo-Bangladesh border like Huroi, Hingaria, Lejri and others, but in a pathetic state.
Due to heavy rainfall in recent days, landslides are blocking the road. The villagers said that landslides are usual affair in the area and since weather conditions could disconnect them from other villages, they usually take the task of clearing the debris with bare hands and rudimentary tools available from their homes.
“The road is narrow and situation worsens during the monsoon when landslides occur. It becomes too dangerous to drive vehicles,” said a local resident.
