Tura, Jul 1: The Garo Students’ Union (GSU) Phulbari regional unit has demanded two ambulances for the Community Health Centre (CHC) after the lone ambulance in the health centre broke down.
Further the NGO highlighted the extremely poor health infrastructure in the CHC stating that the X-ray machine, which broke down over a year ago has still not been repaired.
“This matter was brought to our notice by an employee in the CHC and is very serious given that we are in a pandemic situation. The dilapidated ambulance is in no condition to service patients and given the condition of the road, we fear the patient will not survive, much like the ambulance itself,” said GSU-Phulbari president, Francewell Ch Marak.
The GSU also feels that given the number of patients that come to the CHC, there is a need for at least two ambulances to be stationed there.
“We are really shocked to know that the X-ray machine has been lying unrepaired for more than a year now. It is worrying that the CHC has been neglected this way. A serious look into the matter is required on an urgent basis,” he added.
Further the GSU has pointed out that a child specialist and a gynecologist are urgently required after the inauguration of the maternity section of the hospital.
