Shillong, Nov 3: Ten pressure groups met Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma at his residence on Tuesday and gave the government 30 days to clarify steps taken on long-pending influx issues.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, FKJGP President Dundee C Khongsit said the Chief Minister failed to provide a clear explanation.
“The JCC has given a 30 days deadline to provide detailed clarification on matters raised,” Khongsit said.
He said the meeting discussed the Inner Line Permit, Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA) 2016, entry and exit points, Meghalaya Identification Registration of Migrant Workers Act 2020, and the Meghalaya Benami Transactions Prohibition Act.
“As the Chief Minister could not provide required clarification, he assured another meeting later this month to discuss issues in greater detail,” Khongsit said.
The groups warned they will launch public agitation if the government remains silent.
Khongsit stressed the issues have serious implications and urged the government to act before unfortunate incidents occur, particularly along border areas.
