Shillong, Nov 3: The expansion work of the Shillong Airport at Umroi has commenced with deployment of earth-moving machinery for runway extension and demolition of AAI staff quarters for terminal expansion, the Airport Authority of India informed the Meghalaya High Court.
AAI submitted photographs of ongoing works to the division bench of Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh.
The state government informed that against 16 acres required for Runway End Safety Area, 17.68 acres has been acquired on RWY 04 side, including land for access road to neighbouring villages. Survey was conducted on October 8 and PWD is preparing estimates for the road.
The court deferred the hearing to December 14.
