Shillong, Oct 29: An FIR has been lodged at Phulbari Police Station alleging assault and intimidation by members of a local organisation.
A resident of Bholarbhita in a police complaint alleged that on October 27 between 8:30 am and 9:30 am, he was assaulted and grievously injured by a group allegedly led by Johny A Marak and others associated with ACHIK (NGO) at the cow market in Chandigre.
The complainant further alleged that the accused, with the assistance of the Bazar President and Secretary, forcibly compelled shops in Chibinang market to shut down and threatened traders with dire consequences if they continued business.
The alleged incident has created fear and insecurity among local traders and residents, the complainant stated.
Police said a case has been registered and investigation is underway.
