Shillong, Oct 26: Rajya Sabha MP James P K Sangma on Monday reviewed three key projects for Garo Hills — Baljek Airport, Tura Medical College and NH-217 Dainadubi-Darugiri-Baghmara corridor — and said he was encouraged by the progress.
“These three projects are about bringing healthcare, connectivity and opportunity closer to people of Garo Hills,” Sangma said.
On the Baljek Airport, Joint Secretary and Commissioner of Transport KL Nongbri apprised him of progress. Sangma said he would follow up with the Airports Authority of India in New Delhi.
“Baljek will fly. I will keep following it through until it does,” he said.
On the Tura Medical College, Commissioner and Secretary (Health) Dr Joram Beda said physical progress is on track. Sangma said the college will allow students to study medicine close to home.
On NH-217, PWD (Roads and Buildings) Secretary Bibatdor Manick Syiem and NHIDCL officials apprised him of progress. Sangma said better roads will help farmers, students and patients.
He appreciated the state government under Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and said he will continue to follow up on all three projects.
