Shillong, Oct 19: Ahead of Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma’s visit to Chokpot and Siju on October 21, a Baghmara-based group has asked him to ditch the chopper and take the road.
In a letter to the Deputy Commissioner, South Garo Hills, the A·chik Society for Ownership of Native Grounds (ASONG), Southern Zone said helicopter travel will shield the CM from the harsh reality people face daily on the broken Chokpot-Karukol-Siju road.
“Travel by road to see damaged roads, bridge conditions and drainage failures. People need practical solutions, not ceremonial programmes,” the group said.
The visit includes inaugurations and foundation stone ceremonies. The group requested the DC to forward the representation to the CM and facilitate road inspection, and urged PWD (Roads) to identify deficiencies and take corrective measures.
