Shillong, Oct 7: Members of the All Meghalaya Primary School Teachers Association (AMPSTA) staged a rally in Shillong on Wednesday highlighting their eight-point charter of demands.
Teachers assembled at Golf Links Community Hall and marched via Fourth Furlong and Polo before returning to the hall for a meeting.
At the meeting, AMPSTA General Secretary FC Shullai said teachers are not satisfied with the Education Department’s clarification on rationalisation. He said recruitment of teachers, rationalisation formula and service security remain major concerns.
Shullai said the government should fix teacher allocation considering both student enrolment and number of classes, and exclude deficit schools from notified schools’ category. He warned the association will intensify agitation if the government fails to act.
AMPSTA leader Vicunia Nongpluh flagged delay in recruitment, saying single-teacher schools in rural areas will suffer. She said there is apprehension that vacant posts will be abolished during rationalisation instead of being filled.
