Shillong, Oct 1: The A’chik Conscious Holistically Integrated Krima (ACHIK), South Western Zone, has demanded immediate restriction of heavy dumper trucks on the Purakhasia-Salmanpara road and urgent repair of the damaged stretch.
In a representation to the South West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, the group said continuous movement of heavily loaded dumpers has severely deteriorated the road, causing extensive damage, potholes, mud, dust and dangerous stretches that have made normal transportation extremely difficult.
It stated that the condition has become hazardous for school students, patients, pedestrians, daily commuters, farmers and traders who depend on the road for essential movement, and poses a serious threat to public safety, affecting access to schools, markets, hospitals and offices.
ACHIK urged the DC to take immediate administrative action to restrict/stop movement of heavy dumper trucks, particularly overloaded vehicles, until the road is restored to safe and motorable condition, and to direct the concerned department to undertake urgent repair and restoration without delay along with inspection, enforcement and monitoring to prevent further damage.
