Shillong, Oct 1: A decomposed body of a man found in a stream near Pyndensohstap village in West Khasi Hills on September 29 has been identified as 31-year-old Binod Chetry of Lower Lampi, who had been missing since September 18.
According to police, the body was found lying submerged among boulders. It was in an advanced stage of decomposition with a tattoo bearing the name “Rahul” on the chest.
Police said information was received from the headman of Pyndensohstap by Langpih Border Outpost, following which a team along with a mobile crime scene unit rushed to the spot and conducted an inquest in presence of independent witnesses.
The body was later shifted to Civil Hospital, Nongstoiñ for post-mortem examination and kept for identification.
His father Mukul Chetry identified the body on Wednesday. After completion of post-mortem and legal formalities, the body was handed over to the family.
Family members said Binod had a history of alcohol consumption and would at times leave home without informing. They have sought a probe into the circumstances of his death and have lodged a complaint at Boko Police Station in Assam.
