Nongpoh, Sep 29: A 22-year-old youth was detained with suspected heroin at Pahammawlein toll gate in Ri Bhoi district.
The accused has been identified as David Marwein (22) of Wahumlalong, Eastern West Khasi Hills.
According to police, the incident occurred around 12:50 pm today at 20th Mile, Pahammawlein, when toll staff stopped an injured scooty rider to assist him. During interaction, they grew suspicious that he was carrying drugs and informed police.
A search was conducted in presence of witnesses as per NDPS Act norms. Police recovered a soap box containing 9.77 grams of suspected heroin, which tested positive.
The accused has been detained and further investigation is on to trace other linkages in the case.
