Shillong, Sep 24: Pharmacists in Meghalaya under the All Meghalaya Pharmacist Association have decided to boycott Pharmacist Day.
Association member Emosjohn Syiemlieh said the boycott is to protest the government’s failure to meet their demands.
“Most pharmacists are jobless due to lack of seriousness of the government in recruitment for several years. There are no advertisements, no appointments and even those appointed are on a temporary basis,” he said.
The association demanded that posts be advertised and filled as per Pharmacist Service Rules 2025 and that the rules be reviewed as they do not follow IPHS standards.
Several memorandums have been submitted and assurance was given for a hearing, but there has been no response from the Chief Minister, he said.
“Our first step is to boycott Pharmacist Day and we will inform our next course of action accordingly,” Syiemlieh added.
