Shillong, Sep 23: Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma on Wednesday laid the foundation stone for the new Meghalaya Board of School Education (MBoSE) Regional Office Shillong, virtually inaugurated 82 new school buildings under Mission Education Phase-II and released Rs 49.78 crore Samagra Shiksha grants.
The MBoSE Shillong office has functioned from temporary accommodation for 45 years since its establishment in September 1981 as Shillong Cell. It operated from the Inspector of Schools office at Mawkhar, Education Guest House Laitumkhrah, MBoSE Guest House and Taxation Building at Lower Lachumiere since 2005. It supervises seven districts of Khasi-Jaintia, 1,329 secondary schools, 397 higher secondary schools, 97 SSLC and 78 HSSLC centres.
Sangma also launched the CM Impact Guidebook powered by AI and released Rs 49.78 crore under Samagra Shiksha for 2026-27. This includes Rs 17.88 crore uniform grant at Rs 600 per student for 2,98,013 students via DBT, composite grant for 7,541 schools, textbooks for 5,19,816 students and Rs 57.62 lakh for 3,440 Children with Special Needs covering escort, transport, stipend for girls and home-based education.
Highlighting education transformation, the CM said governance is about small effective steps and cited Mission Education started in 2019 with Rs 100 crore against requirement of Rs 3000 crore, now committing Rs 457.41 crore across 2,230 schools. 182 schools have been modernised with digital classrooms and STEM labs.
He said CM IMPACT platform providing chapter-wise content, chatbot support and mock tests has contributed to 41.2 percentage point rise in SSLC pass percentage and stressed outcomes over expenditure. He noted PGI 2.0 score improved from 448 in 2024 to 525.71 in 2026, up 77.71 points, now at par with 15 states, with a target to cross 700 points to enter top 10.
