Shillong, Sep 20: Over 100 youth, families and fitness enthusiasts took part in a tribute run organised by the Indian Air Force at the Shillong Club to honour the IAF’s sole Param Vir Chakra recipient.
The ‘Sekhon Promo Run – Mission 5K’ was organised as a lead-up to the Sekhon Indian Air Force Marathon to be held on October 4.
The marathon pays tribute to Flying Officer Nirmaljit Singh Sekhon, who was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his supreme valour in his lone defence of Srinagar Air Base against a Pakistan Air Force air raid during the 1971 War.
The IAF said the promo run aimed to promote fitness and inspire locals to take up running.
After the run in Shillong, the main marathon will be flagged off simultaneously on October 4 from Guwahati, New Delhi and Air Force stations across the country.
