Shillong, Sep 19: The University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) held a special remembrance programme at Gyan Circle on Saturday to honour legendary singer and cultural icon Zubeen Garg.
USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, Pro VC Padma Shri Dr Sarbeswar Sahariah, Prof Dr A.C. Kataki, senior faculty, doctors and around 6,000 students gathered to pay floral tributes.
A heartfelt rendition of his iconic song “Mayabini” became the poignant highlight of the evening.
Addressing the gathering, Chancellor Hoque recalled Zubeen’s special bond with USTM, noting the university had conferred upon him the Honorary D.Litt. at its 10th Convocation on August 27, 2024, for his outstanding contribution to art, culture, peace and society.
The USTM Cultural Forum also presented a special musical tribute celebrating the artiste whose voice defined generations and became part of the Northeast’s cultural identity.
