Shillong, Sep 18: Social activist Greneth M Sangma has sought clarification from the South Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner on the prolonged delay in compensation disbursement, land settlement and execution of two key road projects in the district.
In a letter, Sangma raised queries regarding the NESIDS road from Chokpot to Kharukol via Warima, Kenegre, Paromgre and Nokatgre, and NH-217.
Referring to a sanction order dated March 5, he sought to know whether significant trees/forest areas need to be cleared for the NESIDS road and if compensatory afforestation is required. If so, whether land for plantation has been identified and if compensation has been assessed and paid to private landowners.
He further asked whether compensation/land and forest settlement funds have been sanctioned and, if sanctioned, reasons for delay in disbursement despite information that the foundation stone is proposed to be laid.
On NH-217, Sangma sought the present status of land acquisition, whether proceedings have been completed, whether compensation has been determined and paid to all affected landowners, and the expected timeline for pending payments and commencement of work.
