Shillong, Sep 18: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) on Friday objected to police alleging that the two scooty riders who hit Traffic ASP Lovish Garg are its members.
In a statement, the union said it is concerned over any incident causing injury to law-enforcement personnel or public, but is shocked by the manner in which its name is being dragged in.
“If police have evidence that the riders are KSU members, produce it and take action as per law. KSU does not seek leniency if any member has done wrong, but will not allow its name to be destroyed through baseless allegations,” the union said.
Questioning the assumption, the KSU said the city is full of two-wheelers and asked if every scooty that hits a person would be linked to the union.
“Condemning unverified allegations, if anyone has broken the law, arrest them, produce evidence like CCTV footage and prove it in court. Law must operate on evidence, not speculation,” it added.
