Shillong, Sep 17: The West Jaintia Hills District Magistrate has banned bull fights and animal fights throughout the district with immediate effect and until further orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The order was issued following reports of rampant bull fights and other animal fights, particularly during fetes and festivals in certain areas of the district.
The administration noted such activities violate Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960 and relevant directions of the Supreme Court of India.
The District Magistrate warned that any violation of the order shall be dealt with strictly under the law.
