Shillong, Sep 15: Nearly three months after two Hajong youths were found dead in Nongthymmai, the family is still awaiting the post-mortem report and a clear update on the investigation.
According to the Hajong Students Youth Voice (HSYV) Federation Council the family had submitted a written request for the post-mortem report to the Superintendent of Police, Crime Branch, but was yet to receive it.
Chairman of the organisation, Nobaram Hajong in a statement appealed for a written investigation status, verification of any safety SOP violations, and, if necessary, an independent or higher-level inquiry, stressing that the appeal was peaceful and lawful and did not declare anyone guilty.
Semanto Hajong (21) and Pronome Hajong (22) were found dead under suspicious circumstances inside a roadside shop at Lumsohphoh, Nongthymmai on June 14, 2026. Authorities indicated a possible case of suicide by hanging, but this explanation has been disputed by the victims’ families and local groups.
Nobaram raised questions on workplace safety and safe-return arrangements for Pronome, who worked at Alya Café& Bar and whose work reportedly ended around midnight, and sought verification of the reported management link between the cafe and the hardware shop where Semanto worked.
He also asked whether all CCTV footage from the workplace, surrounding areas and routes to the accommodation was identified, seized and preserved before overwriting, and sought clarification on the procedure for recording time in the post-mortem report.
