Shillong, Sep 14: The Jaintia Students’ Union (JSU) Education Cell today said it has compelled the Director of Health Services (DHS) to withdraw and rearrange the 2026-27 MBBS and BDS seat allotments.
Following an urgent meeting today with senior health officials, DHS Dr L Mylliem Umlong conceded to rectify “severe merit violations” and assured that a newly rearranged merit-based allotment list will be published tomorrow, the union said.
The JSU delegation was led by Education Secretary Bocheru Mi Pohsnem, along with Assistant Education Secretary Pysnhailang Suliang, Executive Member Borntifulson Rupon and Shillong Circle Member Jefferson Shylla.
The union alleged that lower-scoring candidates were allotted preferred institutions like NEIGRIHMS while higher-scoring candidates who had opted for the same institution were denied.
It said a candidate at Serial No. 30 with a NEET score of 439 was allotted a seat at NEIGRIHMS, while multiple candidates with higher scores who had opted for the same institution were denied.
The union also alleged that the Health Department failed to release the updated Standard Operating Procedure promised last year despite formal recommendations and email follow-ups by JSU.
Officials admitted to executing allotments based on a newly approved SOP that has not yet been officially notified to the public, ignoring transparent procedures established in September 2025, JSU claimed, terming it a “blatant procedural violation”.
The union said the official grievance window remains open till 10 pm today and urged all affected students to immediately email their complaints regarding choice discrepancies to dmeshillong@gmail.com so they can be processed during the rearrangement.”
The final seat allocation must reflect absolute merit, honour rightful college preferences and adhere to a transparent, official SOP,” the union said, adding it will remain vigilant until demands are implemented without undue consideration or special favours.
