Shillong, Sep 12: BJP legislator Alexander Laloo Hek on Saturday claimed many leaders from different parties are keen to join the BJP.
“So many people have approached the BJP. In the present political situation, I cannot disclose who they are,” Hek told reporters.
He said those approaching include sitting and former MLAs from every district of the state.
Citing former UDP leader Jemino Mawthoh who joined the BJP, Hek said MDCs and MLAs are waiting for the right time to switch. Joining dates will be decided by the central leadership, he said.
Hek said national leaders have responded positively, though not fully. These are not just UDP demands but issues concerning the people of Meghalaya, he said.
Asked if NPP MLAs are also in touch, he said, “I won’t deny that discussions are there.”
He added that he had discussed the 2028 Assembly polls with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and exuded confidence that the BJP will form the next government in Meghalaya.
