Shillong, Sep 11: At present 2,604 TB patients are undergoing treatment in Meghalaya while 89 Ni-kshay Mitras are supporting 328 persons with TB, Governor’s Secretariat informed on Friday.
Since the launch of Ni-kshay Mitra initiative in 2022, a total of 452 Ni-kshay Mitras have come forward in the state, with 12,897 food baskets distributed benefiting 3,918 persons with TB.
The data was shared during a food basket distribution programme held at Lok Bhavan, Shillong under Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, where Governor CH Vijayashankar handed over food baskets to 10 persons with TB.
The programme was organised to support persons undergoing TB treatment through nutritional assistance and was attended by Additional Chief Secretary to Governor HC Chaudhary and NEDFi CMD P V S L N Murty.
Highlighting Ni-kshay Mitra initiative, officials said individuals, institutions and corporates can provide nutritional and other support during treatment, reflecting community participation towards TB-free India.
NEDFi, as Ni-kshay Mitra, has been extending sustained support. Murty appreciated efforts of Centre and state government in providing facilities and treatment and said NEDFi remains open to ideas contributing to development and welfare.
