Shillong, Sep 11: The Dr DD Lapang Foundation in association with University of Science and Technology Meghalaya (USTM) organised the first Dr D D Lapang memorial lecture and essay competition prize distribution at USTM to commemorate the first death anniversary of former Chief Minister Dr DD Lapang.
Nongpoh MLA Mayralborn Syiem, who graced the occasion as chief guest, termed late Lapang as the “Father of Ri-Bhoi District” and said the district remains one of the most significant legacies of his long public life.
The programme was attended by family members of late Lapang, USTM Chancellor Mahbubul Hoque, Vice Chancellor Prof GD Sharma, Ri-Bhoi College Principal Dr Elizabeth Kharkongkor, academicians and students.
An essay competition was also held on the occasion.
In the Junior Category, Da-i-bashwa Rympeit of Alpha English Higher Secondary School bagged first prize (Rs 30,000), Sankidon Makdoh of St Dominic Savio’s Higher Secondary School, Mawkhar second (Rs 20,000) and Phibashisha Marbaniang third (Rs 10,000).
In the Open Category, Jannata Mahbuba Khanam of USTM secured first (Rs 50,000), Anamika Nandy of Solar Print Press second (Rs 30,000) and Iaikyrshan Ryntathiang of Balawan College third (Rs 20,000).
