Shillong, Sep 8: CAU-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, South Garo Hills under ICAR-ATARI, Zone-VII, Umiam in collaboration with ICDS, Chokpot organised the National Nutrition Week at KVK Training Hall on Monday.
Georgiana K. Sangma, CDPO, Chokpot, attended as special guest and emphasised promotion of cultivation and consumption of locally available vegetables and fruits grown abundantly in South Garo Hills.
Principal Scientist and Head, KVK South Garo Hills Dr. Athokpam Haribhushan, stressed balanced diet and establishment of nutritional gardens at household level and encouraged the slogan “Grow what you eat and eat what you grow.”
Thirty-six Anganwadi workers participated. A technical session on “Nutri Garden and its Importance” was conducted followed by a poster campaign on “Balanced Nutrition Thali – Key to Healthy Eating”.
The nutrition thali displayed vegetables, fruits, cereals, pulses, fish, milk, eggs, mushroom etc.
A folder on “Balanced Diet” authored by Dr. A. Haribhushan, Basu Langpoklakpam, Dr. Tanya R. Marak and the KVK team was released and distributed.
Vegetable seeds and banana saplings were also distributed to encourage nutritional gardens.
