Shillong, Aug 26: The West Garo Hills district administration has urged citizens to register births and deaths within 21 days as mandated under Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969 and Meghalaya Rules 1999 (amended 2025).
District Nodal Officer Dr. Angelice Agitok Sangma said registration within 21 days is free through CRS portal at Tura Municipal Board, government hospitals, CHCs, PHCs and dispensaries where the medical officer in-charge is registrar.
After 30 days to one year, registration needs the District Registrar’s permission, late fee and Form 14. After one year, it needs a Non-Availability Certificate and DM’s order with late fee.
Accurate documents like EPIC, ST certificate, Aadhaar, ration or job card must be provided as corrections are lengthy. For home births/deaths, a Nokma certificate may be accepted if other documents are unavailable.
The appeal follows a meeting of the District Inter-Departmental Coordination Committee chaired by Deputy Commissioner Vibhor Aggarwal.
