Shillong, Aug 24: The youth wing of the Hill State People Democratic Party (HSPDP) has strongly condemned alleged inflammatory statements made by Kutumba Surakshya Parishad (KSP) president Satya Ranjan Borah on Facebook.
In a statement, HSPDP youth wing president Korbarlang Syiemlieh and secretary Pynshai Joel Dkhar said the Assam-based Borah’s posts calling for a “bigger economic blockade” against Meghalaya and calls to “make Shillong isolated” were a direct threat to the state’s economy and tourism sector.
The youth wing also objected to Borah allegedly comparing the Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) to “Pakistan’s terrorists” and labelling it a terrorist group without proof, even as police investigation into recent incidents is underway. It termed the remarks an insult to the KSU and the people of Meghalaya.
Borah’s remarks were made after violence during a KSU rally here on August 19. Several vehicles were damaged and people injured, with the perpetrators targetting cars with Assam licence plates and people of a non-tribal appearance.
The HSPDP further condemned Borah’s claim that the Catholic Church was sponsoring vandalism, calling it an attempt to target the Christian community and incite communal hatred.
The organisation demanded an immediate unconditional public apology from Borah and urged the Meghalaya government, police and cyber cell to investigate the matter, take strict legal action and ensure removal of the offensive posts.
