Shillong, Aug 24: The Shillong General Post Office (GPO) was among 14 renovated post offices across the country virtually inaugurated on Monday by Union Minister for Communications and DoNER Jyotiraditya M. Scindia.
The inauguration was held at Rang Bhavan, New Delhi, where Scindia also launched the Dak Seva and Dak MITRA Apps in the presence of MoS Communications Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani.
In Shillong, the programme was attended by MLA Ampareen Lyngdoh, Chief Postmaster General North Eastern Circle Joseph Lalrinsailova and senior postal officials.
Scindia said India Post is being modernised under PM Narendra Modi to make services more efficient and accessible while retaining its service ethos.
The Dak Seva App brings services like locating post offices, booking and tracking parcels, pickup requests and payments for PLI, RPLI and POSB on one platform in 23 languages. The Dak MITRA App, deployed in 1.3 lakh branch offices, enables Gramin Dak Sevaks to manage banking, insurance and mail services with OTP-based security.
Officials said over 110 post offices have been remodelled in universities and 40 in major cities, with 5,700+ centres now enabling real-time logistics tracking.
The renovated Shillong GPO is expected to improve citizen services in the city and adjoining areas.
