Shillong, Aug 21: The Speaker of the Meghalaya Assembly, Thomas A Sangma, met with the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs, Jual Oram, at his office on Friday and submitted the proposal along with the detailed project report (DPR) for the second phase of the new state Assembly.
During the meeting, the Speaker also raised the issue of the pending central share of scholarships for tribal students and requested that this be released at the earliest.
Sangma further requested that the pending scholarship amount be released in a single instalment rather than in several instalments. This would help avoid uncertainty and dissatisfaction among students awaiting scholarship assistance, he explained. Timely disbursement would also ensure that students do not face unnecessary difficulties in pursuing their education.
