Shillong, Aug 21: The Khasi Jaiñtia Welfare Association (KJWA) formally launched its Golden Jubilee celebrations on August 20 at Mission Dorbar Hall, Mission Compound, marking 50 years since its establishment on August 20, 1977.
A key highlight was the recognition of the association’s founders. Tributes were paid to the late Rev. T. Rodborne, Fr. S. Sngi Lyngdoh, M. R. Allya and Paiem Olim Sing Syiem, and to Prof. Helen Giri. Special commemorative lectures were delivered in memory of the four late founders by Martha Mary Marwein, Dr. F. Lyngdoh, K. Nongkhlaw and Longnam W. Kharpuri.
The programme was chaired by KJWA Vice President Dr. Khlur Mukhim.
Rev. R. G. Laloo who attended the programme as chief guest commended the association for its service to society, urging members to continue upholding that spirit.
He also released Meghalaya GK Reckoner, a publication compiled by the KJWA.
KJWA General Secretary Dr. A. W. Rani appealed to members, supporters and the public to extend their support throughout the year-long Golden Jubilee celebrations.
