Shillong, Aug 18: Meghalaya defeated Chandigarh 2-0 in their opening match of the 65th edition of the Subroto Cup International Football Tournament 2026 at the Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi.
The match was played in Group D of the U-17 girls category. Meghalaya are being represented at the tournament by Little Star Higher Secondary School of Eastern West Khasi Hills, who emerged as the state champions in July.
The opening ceremony was marked by vibrant performances, including an enthralling routine by the Air Devil Sky Diving team, Air Warriors Drill Team and a cultural performance by students from the Air Force Golden Jubilee Institute.
A total of 36 teams divided into eight groups are competing for honours in the junior girls category. The winners of each group will qualify for the knockouts, culminating in the finals on August 27.
