Shillong, Aug 11: The Meghalaya High Court today heard a suo motu Public Interest Litigation (PIL) concerning the Shillong-Dawki Road.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh heard from the Deputy Solicitor General of India (DSGI) N Mozika that debris from the recently washed out section of road has been cleared and village road bypass created.
Annexed to the affidavit were photographs evidencing the work carried out by the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corp Ltd (NHIDCL).
The report also enlisted the steps taken by NHIDCL to address the issues along the Shillong-Dawki corridor.
The High Court heard that a contract has been awarded to ensure that crash barriers are erected at all vulnerable points. The said work will be completed within six weeks.
According to the court, the DSGI further submitted that the NHIDCL has also handed over a well-equipped ambulance to the Primary Health Centre at Pongkung.
The High Court further stated that as far as damage caused to certain structures during the construction of the said work by NHIDCL is concerned, it appears that the state Public Works Department (PWD) has submitted an estimate of Rs 1.72 crore odd to the Additional Deputy Commissioner of East Khasi Hills.
Mozika, however, stated that the PWD should have carried out the damage assessment in the presence of the officers of NHIDCL.
He stated that the officers of NHIDCL will also be carrying out a damage assessment regarding Mawlieh Lower Primary School, which was affected by the said construction of road independently, and submit an estimate with respect to the said school on the next date.
