Mawkyrwat, Aug 11: Residents of Jakrem and Mawbasa in South West Khasi Hills will soon get better drinking water supply and road connectivity with foundation stones for two projects laid on Tuesday.
Mawkyrwat MLA Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar laid the foundation stone for the Jakrem A&B Water Supply Scheme, sanctioned at an estimated cost of Rs 15.05 crore under the state scheme.
The foundation stone for improvement of the approach road to Mawbasa, including metalling and blacktopping at a cost of Rs 1.46 crore, was also laid.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Commissioner Aitinoli L. Mawlong, senior officials from PHE and PWD, village headman Pascal Wahlang and local residents.
Officials said the projects will strengthen water infrastructure in Jakrem and improve connectivity to Mawbasa, ensuring better public amenities for the area.
