Shillong, Aug 11: The Special POCSO Court, East Khasi Hills convicted and sentenced one Shanboklang Dkhar to 20 years rigorous imprisonment for sexually assaulting a 7-year-old girl.
Judge M. K. Lyngdoh found the accused guilty of the crime committed in 2023. In a verdict on August 5, the court also imposed a fine of ₹50,000. In default, he will serve an additional six months in jail
According to police, an FIR was lodged at Madanrting PS on May 15, 2023 alleging that Dkhar had committed penetrative sexual assault on the minor. A case was registered under section 5(l)(m)(n)/6 POCSO Act.
Dkhar was arrested during investigation. The charge sheet was filed on July 31, 2023.
The court noted he has already served three years, two months and 19 days in custody. He will now serve the remaining 16 years, nine months and 11 days.
The case was investigated by WPSI Lavinia S. Khongwang, presently on deputation at NIA, Sonapur, Assam.
