Shillong, Aug 6: The office of the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, in collaboration with the Secretariat Administration Department and Bengaluru-based Trestle Labs Pvt. Ltd., organised a sensitisation programme on ‘Assistive Technology and Digital Accessibility for Government Employees’.
The programme, held on August 4 under the theme, ‘Promoting an Inclusive Workplace for Employees with Visual Impairment’, focused on making government services and workplaces more accessible.
Adviser to the government Paul Lyngdoh said the initiative would help build a more inclusive ecosystem using assistive technology. He urged employees to adopt an empathetic approach and said “eyesight alone does not determine a person’s vision or potential.”
SAD Secretary Swapnil Tembe highlighted steps taken to make the Secretariat accessible, including ramps and improved restroom facilities. He invited suggestions for further improvements.
Lyngdoh handed over the Kibo assistive technology device to the Secretariat Administration Department for official use.
The programme was attended by Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities Lyngkor Kynjing, Director of Social Welfare Saloni Verma and officials from various departments.
